Before going into the subject, I proudly present to you my secondary blog – “Computer Tips and Tech News” which has unique visitors of average 200 and pageviews of average 600 everyday.

My Traffic Sources:

These are the simple analysis of the traffic sources of ontechnews.com. If you are a blogger, you may take this as a reference in order to improve your blog’s traffic.

Based on what we can see from the two charts above, my traffics mostly from Search Engines. It means that the most visitors come to my blog through google, yahoo or others when they search for something and found my site.

This indicates that my visitors are mostly fresh and new. They come to seek for information and leave when they get what they want. This means that ontechnews.com lacks of loyal readers. A good blog requires loyal readers so that they can read the latest entries accordingly, leaving comments for all your articles, and most importantly maximize your profits (traffic is the source of money). Unfortunately, I have very less amount of comments for my articles in ontechnews.com.

Direct Traffic – Sign of the amount of loyal readers. The higher the direct traffic you have, the higher the number of loyal readers.

Referring Sites – Visitors that went to your website from another website that has a link to your website. The more the referring sites you have, the more famous your website is.

How to get loyal readers for your websites or blogs?

This tip is what I wanted to share with you. I have realised that having one loyal reader is better than having 10 fresh and new readers. You should spend time in getting loyal readers instead of just writing and wait for the visitors from search engine. Hmm… instead of using the word “getting”, I use “turning”. The best way of getting loyal readers is to turn your new visitors into loyal readers. Grasp their heart and give them motivation so that they will always come back to you. The following approaches may be helpful for you, I called it “10 strategies to make loyal readers”:

1. Introducing your blog to your friends and request them to spread the word for you – Friends are the most loyal readers. This is quite lame but it works.

2. Encourage your visitors to leave comment – Write a motivating sentence in the last paragraph for every articles. Eg. “Have you try this out? Share us your opinions!”

3. Respond to visitors’ comments – It’s crucial to answer their questions, or simply saying a “thank you” for their comments.

4. Respond to all emails sent to you – Don’t let your readers have the feelings of being ignored. Answer to their questions as good as possible. If you are not able to answer them, a simple “sorry” is better than nothing. Always thank to those who give you suggestions, no matter the ideas are good or stupid.

5. Promise continuous topic in each post – In last paragraph of your posts, promise your readers that you will be writing another interesting and better post related to the topic. Eg. “My next project will be telling you how to make money online! Stay tuned!”

6. Email subscription – Let your readers subscribe to you through email. When your readers subsccribe to you(giving you their email addresses), they will receive emails when there are new entries in your blog, or you may contact them gradually to remind them about your website or blog. There are many plugins that work with this concept if you’re using WordPress, simply search for “email subscription wordpress”.

7. Writing posts with quote to your readers comment – This sounds crazy? If one of your readers ask you certain questions which related to the topic of your blog, you can quote his questions with your answers in a new post. It is very proud if my name appear in a post of a famous blog. This would grasp their attentions toward your blog as they may want to show their names on your blog.

8. Keep connection with your readers – Provide your contact information such as your IM addresses(MSN messenger, ICQ, etc) to have a closer connection with your readers.

9. IMPORTANT: To be in contact with your readers who have their own websites – If your readers who have their own websites or blogs leave comments to you, visit them and do the same thing to them – leaving comments to their articles. You can also provide suggestions by sending emails to them. This helps to promote your blog as their readers may visit your blog as well.

10. IMPORTANT: Send gifts to your readers – Give them something to remember you by. You may offer them services or send gifts depending on where your skills lie. A simple gift such as an ebook or software is enough to save your website to their memory.

Optional: RSS feed Subscription: Many Pro bloggers encourage this feature, but it doesn’t work well for me. I realised that most of my readers do not know what is that, even you may not know how it works. It works well on most blogs. You can try it out if you have a blog.

So, what’s your opinion about these strategies? Do you have any extra suggestions? Leave me your comments!
